Featured Angel – Ressa
I’m Ressa, I’m from Michigan and I’m an ambitious young woman who loves to know that when I walk into a room I am noticed by my big, bold, beautiful body and personality. I love fashion, traveling, dressing up, and meeting new people.
I have not always been the confident, fun , loveable woman I am today. In these last five years, I have been working on my mind, body, and spirit. I started being active, losing weight, and feeling good while doing just that. I had to deal with what was on the inside of me to even begin to deal with the outside of me, and that has helped me blossom into the beautiful and confident person you see today.
I have always been a big girl and of course, I was teased about my weight and made to feel like being overweight made me an ugly person. It’s foolish how being a certain size is associated with beauty.
I used to feel that because I was overweight that meant I couldn’t show this awesome personality I have to people. I would be quiet and always want to be in the background. I did not want to draw any more attention to my weight than there already was.
I absolutely love being a curvy woman and I fully embrace who I am. It may have taken me some time to embrace the beautiful work of art that I am, however my journey into becoming who and what I am today was necessary. To be big, beautiful, and bold was something I would have never imagined I would be and now here I am.
As of now I have so many people in my life who support me and heavily influence me on my journey, however to name a few… My mother has been a big support of me, wanting to change the way I felt and looked. She would help me with healthy cooking and meal planning and even workout with me when she could.
Also, my college roommate Diva is to thank as well. She would always give me peep talks on why I am that GIRL. My mentor Diana helped me through my personal thoughts and feelings about myself and she just so happens to be a counselor lol. Yes! Therapy does work.
If I could tell my younger self one thing about loving yourself, I would say just that…LOVE YOURSELF! I would say your size does not define who you are. Your size doesn’t determine your happiness. Your size doesn’t make you inferior to anyone. LOVE Yourself and make everyone watch while you’re doing it.
I love all the Plus size online influencers that I see on social media and it’s too many to name LOL. I have to say Curvy Angels has helped me get out of my shell by posting pictures of myself and loving more of the skin that I am in. I enjoy seeing other beautiful curvy women of all different cultures post and love the skin they’re in. This has helped me want to do the same and show more people around the world who I am.
I feel that social media has set a great platform for the body positive movement, however there are still people who like to shame plus size women for their confidence and that is those people’s issues and not ours. Social media has and still is helping plus size women who are aspiring to be models, fashion designers, make-up artists and to just be known in general.
I found out about Curvy Angels from a friend of mine on social media who would repost certain statuses made, so I looked at the page and started to follow. I enjoy the post and people who love and support curvy women. The Curvy Angels page has helped me to see more people than I already know who enjoy a Curvy woman. I enjoy the positivity from the page and the people. I LOVE IT! The page is truly a judgement free zone.
I do not have any business, organizations, or companies I am working with as of now, however I would be happy to share later down the line when I do. I will say I am an advocate for mental health and I try to promote that as much as possible. Mental Health Matters!
